Perinatal Mental Health

Perinatal Mental Health

at Grace Street Counseling

Our focus is to help support you through this transition time as a mom-to-be or new mom. We provide for a wide range of issues and discuss in a safe, supportive, and judgement-free atmosphere that is tailored to your specific needs. Our approach helps you to achieve personal growth and make pre-pregnancy, pregnancy, and postpartum manageable.

As a mom-to-be or new mom:

  • you might be anxious.

  • you might obsess about things.

  • you might fear conversations or comments by others (even those you love).

  • you might not know the best way to assert yourself without the risk of ruining relationships.

  • you might not feel like your usual self and still have to care for your newborn (and others).

  • you might feel isolated or lonley.

  • you might have intrusive or scary thoughts.

If you’re feeling any of these emotions, we’re here to help you. To find out more about our counseling services or to schedule a consultation, please call 631-540-0554.

What happens at a session for Perinatal Mental Health?

We believe that every mom-to-be or new mom should have access to information and a community. Pregnancy and becoming a parent is something so many people want to be but there is no class that tells you how to get through the transition without losing sight of your life experience, your unique relationship, and your life goals (career or otherwise).

In your initial session, we will get to know you both from an acute perspective; what is going on in this moment that brings you to therapy, and also a holistic perspective; how your concerns are impacting you on a physical, emotional, spiritual, and of course mental level.

In our work together, we frequently check in and learn about how you view your progress, what changes you have noticed, and the areas that still need attention.

Our role as a therapist is to provide the tools to enable you to feel more in control of your life and promote your overall wellness.
